Denver (AP) The Colorado Council of Churches is opposing a ballot measure that would ban affirmative action in state government and education.
The group says Amendment 46 is an attack on equal opportunity for Colorado women and people of color. The Rev. Jim Ryan, the church council's executive director, says the proposal would eliminate things like science and math tutoring for young women and
closing the gender gap in pay.
But the proposal's supporters say they're seeking equal treatment for everyone.
California businessman Ward Connerly is promoting Amendment 46 and similar measures in four other states.
