Fuel Theft Feud

By  |

Both Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Grand Junction Police Department are warning residents to be weary of fuel theft. With gas prices on the rise and no relief in sight, they say some are turning to extreme measures.

The Sheriff's Office says it averages one fuel theft case a month. The Grand Junction Police department has had ten cases this year, eight of those have been since April.

There are several things you can do from becoming a victim of gas theft like; use a locking gas cap, park in a well lit area at night, if you own a fleet of vehicles mare sure they are parked in a secured lot and keep track of the amount of gas in them.

If you suspect you are a victim of fuel theft call the Police Department's non-emergency line at 242-6707. Remember stealing gas is a felony!
