MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) -- Bond has been set at $500,000 for a man suspected in a decades old attempted murder case out of Montrose County.
48-year-old Raul Ramirez-Perez appeared in Montrose County District Court Monday and was advised of his charges which include first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
According to our partners at the Montrose Daily Press, Ramirez-Perez is suspected of shooting Lucio Domingo Diaz back in October 1985, allegedly following an argument over a game of pool. A warrant was issued by Olathe Police shortly thereafter, but it wasn't until recently that Ramirez-Perez was found.
Ramirez-Perez was arrested in California on Oct. 30 by the U.S. Border Patrol. Authorities say he and five other Mexican nationals were apprehended as they tried to enter the U.S. illegally.
It was after he was arrested, they learned of the warrant in Montrose County. He was then extradited back to Colorado.
Officials say Ramirez-Perez has previously been deported from the U.S.
He is due back in court in December.
