Sequester Protest

Sequestration is causing headaches across the nation and here at home as local educators worry about budget cut impacts on education.

Area educators and students gathered today to discuss the impact of the automatic, across-the-board, cuts to federally funded services at schools like Colorado Mesa University.

CMU professor Tom Acker says the cuts are especially going to hurt those who are first generation non-traditional students,” so they are first generation they need the support, not only for access through funding with scholarships and to pay tuition bills, but also the supports that people have not got traditional vision of what higher education is and how you are suppose to act in this system we work in".

Organizers of today's event say rather than cutting education, more of an effort should be made to fund it, and are encouraging an investment in the state's future.
