Effective Sunday, if you fly American Airlines you will be charged $15 just to check a bag.
Airline officials say the move is an effort to generate revenue as fuel costs for airlines continue to rise.
American began charging passengers $25 to check a second bag two weeks ago.
The air carrier points out that carry–on rules have not changed, and that many passengers will avoid the fee due to the premium status of their tickets or loyalty program activity.
Although the new fee applies to those who buy tickets from Sunday forward, American officials believe only 20–to–25 percent of their customers this summer will be affected because they purchased tickets in advance.
