Authorities investigating a traffic accident that sent one man to the hospital and tied up traffic.

The crash happened just before 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the intersection of 14th Street and Ute Avenue.

Witnesses say the man hit the curb on Ute and slammed into a light pole.

The Grand Junction Fire Department had to break out the man's front window and cut the roof off to get him out. He was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Police believe alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash and charges are pending.

Traffic in the area was at a stand still for around 30 minutes while crews cleaned up and officials freed the man from the wreckage.
