GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. You may have noticed more construction around 1st St. than usual Wednesday, but that wasn't part of the original plan.
The sewer line construction project in that area created a sink hole on 1st St. and North Ave. that's four feet in diameter and one and a half feet deep closing down part of 1st St.
A 30 inch storm line not seen on a map was accidentally damaged by crews and the rain caused the street to sink in.
The closure on first has been affecting lanes in both directions all day on Wednesday.
At 5PM City of Grand Junction crews are still working on patching up the area with asphalt after adding a new pipe underground. They expect it to be re-opened later Wednesday night.
