Sheriff's investigators spent most of Monday successfully negotiating the surrender of one of two men sought in connection with the shooting of a Grand Junction man nearly two weeks ago, according to a source with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
Accompanied by his attorney, Charles Pruitt arrived at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office at 8:00 p.m. Monday night and surrendered peacefully.
Pruitt and Sam Lincoln have been the subject of an intense man hunt since the near-fatal shooting of James Finnegan on November 23rd. Pruitt is also suspected of being the person who shot at Sheriff’s deputies last Thursday. That incident sparked a house-by-house search of a neighborhood north of downtown Grand Junction after the suspect's car was found abandoned.
Investigators say Pruitt has refused to talk so far, deferring questions to his attorney.
39-year-old Sam Lincoln remains at large. Authorities caution the public that he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
