Sun, Dirty Windhield Cause Crash On Interstate

A truck driver misses a turn on Interstate 70 near Clifton Wednesday afternoon, sending the truck off the road into the desert and tipping the trailer onto its' side.

Bryan Smart of Tennessee was driving westbound on the interstate when he claims he was blinded by the sun. Visibility was complicated by a windshield still covered by road grime from snow near Vail.

Trooper Ron Greasley of the Colorado State Patrol says, "a lot of people get blinded by the sun and don't slow down and that is the case here where the driver went off the road, there’s a lot of cases of that."

Smart was not injured in the single–vehicle crash. He will be ticketed by the Colorado State Patrol for careless driving.
