Chicago (AP) Federal marshals have seized animal food products that were allegedly contaminated at a distribution plant in Joliet, Illinois.
The raid came a day after the government filed a lawsuit and obtained the warrant to seize products at the Petco warehouse.
A federal prosecutor says there were no known public health risks posed by the pet food and no incidents of human or animal illness have been traced to the products.
A Petco spokesman says the company is “committed” to fully complying with recommendations from the Food and Drug Administration. The government claims that FDA inspections at the plant in April found live and dead rodents and birds on or around
the pet food containers.
