A three–vehicle crash in the Beavertail tunnel east of Palisade slows traffic on interstate 70 for 90 minutes this morning.
Just before 7AM a Dodge pickup truck dropped a driveshaft and came to a stop in the east–bound lane of the tunnel. Moments later another truck slammed into the stopped vehicle,sending the Dodge bouncing from wall to wall about 200 feet and ending up just outside the eastbound end of the tunnel. A third pickup rear–ended one of the two trucks already involved.
The driver of the Dodge was transported to St.Mary's hospital for a checkup. Palisade fire chief Richard Rupp says the woman had what appeared to be minor injuries.
