A veteran Mesa County Deputy announces today he is running for Montrose County Sheriff. 45–year–old Chris Franz came to the Mesa County sheriff's office eight years ago after spending 14 years with the Jefferson County Sheriff's office. Since 2004 he has lived in Montrose and commuted four times a week to Grand Junction. He has been a criminal investigator and crime scene technician on the front range. In Mesa County he is a trainer as well as personnel supervisor and has helped hire and promote officers in the department. Franz says his 22 years in law enforcement makes him a good candidate for the high–profile position as Sheriff of the one–hundred employee department.
