Grand Junction police are putting residents on alert for a potential phone scam. On Thursday community advocacy officers received a handful of phone calls from senior citizens reporting an incident in which someone called asking for checking account information. According to police the caller would make up reasons as to why the resident needed to provide the information. The callers are aggressive in demanding the information. Police suggest you ignore the caller's requests. They advise if you or someone you know receives any suspicious phone calls do not give out personal information. It appears the callers in this latest phone scam are targeting elderly people and are using the residents' first names.
