Manitou Springs, Colo. (AP) Authorities say a man suspected of killing his two children charged at sheriff's deputies with a knife before they shot and killed him at his home just west of Manitou Springs.
El Paso County sheriff's spokeswoman Lari Sevene says 37-year-old Scott Alan Montgomery cut himself before deputies arrived Sunday afternoon. Sevene says the deputies saw the children had a significant amount of blood on and around them when they were found unconscious on a bed but it's unclear how they died.
Sevene says the blood on the children was that of the father and an autopsy showed no signs of trauma on either child. She says investigators are waiting for toxicology reports for the children, who were 1 and 5.
Sevene says Montgomery's estranged wife called deputies to check on the children after he had made threatening statements.
