Members of the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies and the Olive Garden restaurant join a Mesa County church in sorting and loading christmas presents today,gifts to low–income children from the staff and patrons of the popular Italian eatery.
Fifty children in the Plateau Valley area will receive presents through Kid's Café, which is sponsored by the Food Bank. Kid's Café is an after–school program offered by the Plateau Valley Assembly of God, and offers meals and opportunities to do homework as well as a safe place to go after school. Children in the program are also given enough food to take home to last the weekend.
The Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies distributes food to more than one-hundred local hunger-relief programs, and last year supplied more than one-million pounds of food.
