The need for blood donations is constant in Mesa County. Blood supplies are especially low during the cold winter months. Someone needs blood every two seconds in the United States. This year alone nearly five million patients will require blood transfusions, but blood donated is only usable for a month and a half.
Saint mary's hospital and AABB stress the importance of people donating on a regular basis. If every eligible person donated blood three to four times a yea all blood needs could be met. January is recognized as national blood donor month and everyone interested in becoming blood donors should call the Saint Mary's Blood Center at 244–2555.
