Gov Ritter Asks for Dought Relief

Gov. Bill Ritter has asked the federal government for drought relief in four southeast Colorado counties, saying Precipitation has been only about 20 percent of normal.

Ritter on Wednesday asked the federal farm service agency to allow farmers and ranchers in Baca, Bent, Kiowa and Prowers counties to cut hay and graze cattle on land in the conservation reserve program.

Unlike most of the state, those counties have not benefited from last winter's heavy snowfall.
