It now costs two cents more to mail a letter. Starting today a first class stamp will cost 39 cents. Don't worry if you still have 37 cent stamps left over, you simply need to affix a two cent stamp along with it.
The post office has made the two cent stamps readily available for the transition.
The roughly five percent increase across the board will help build a congressionally mandated reserve fund.
The increases are the first for the postal service since 2002.
