Poll: Schools Emphasize Wrong Subjects

Washington (AP) Most Americans think schools are putting too much emphasis on the wrong subjects.

More than half the parents and other adults quizzed for an Associated Press survey released this morning think schools are doing just a fair job of getting students ready for the real world.

Most think American youngsters are either just keeping up with kids in the rest of the world or are falling behind.

As for what should be emphasized, the biggest chunk of people -- more than a-third -- say math. English is a distant second at 21 percent, followed by such subjects as art, music and science.
