State Wildlife Area Named For Long Time Mesa County Politician

The Colorado Division of Wildlife unveils its newest state wildlife area and it's located right here in the grand valley. The Tilman Bishop State Wildlife Area is a 105 acre property along the Colorado River in Palisade. The project has been in the works since 1995 and finally came to fruition with a special dedication ceremony Friday. Named for former state Senator and current Mesa County Commissioner Tillie Bishop, the area will primarily be used for wildlife viewing as well as limited hunting and fishing. A state habitat stamp is required to access the wildlife area. It costs five dollars and can be purchased at any Division of Wildlife office. The funds raised through the sale of the stamp is used to protect wildlife habitat in Colorado.
