AIDS Cases Are Rising in Mesa County

The number of people diagnosed in the past year as HIV positive has increased with 307 new Colorado cases in 2005, which is an increase of 15 people from 2004. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, roughly 47 percent of all AIDS cases in the state are diagnosed between the ages of 30 and 39. However, Western Colorado AIDS project, or WESTCAP has begun to see a new trend of patients in the 17 to 24 year old range. Schools throughout Mesa County and WESTCAP itself offer disease education and prevention. If you are or have engaged in any activities that could encourage infection you are encouraged to call WESTCAP. They offer AIDS testing and discount days three times a month. The next discount day is tomorrow at the Mesa County Health Department.
