Investigation Complete Into Inmate Abuse Case

Three sheriff's deputies in Montrose County are facing charges in an alleged case of excessive force. According to Undersheriff Dick Deines the alleged incident happened on September 25th while a male inmate, whose name has not been released, was in the Montrose County jail on a "mental hold". Deputy Sisinio Ruiz–Diaz allegedly kicked the inmate in the chest apparently to subdue the man while he was being placed in restraints. Following an investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's office issued summonses for Ruiz–Diaz and two other deputies who were present at the time of the alleged incident. Ruiz–Diaz whose now on paid administrative leave faces misdemeanor charges of third degree assault, harassment, and second–degree official misconduct. The other two deputies Daniel Eddy and Rogell Strole are facing charges of failure to report use of force by a peace officer and second–degree official misconduct. All three are expected to appear in court February 21st.
