Some legislators on the front range are pushing a measure that would increase liability for dangerous dog owners and put additional safeguards in place.
Senate bill 25 would keep the same criteria for defining a dangerous dog and .if approved, the bill would allow owners to be prosecuted on their first offense rather than on the second or third offense.
Under the bill, owners of dangerous dogs would be required to post a sign warning of the dog, notify the department of agricultural in writing when there is a change in ownership, notify any service or treatment provider in writing of the dog and notify any perspective owner that the dog is dangerous.
The bill is now going before the full senate for consideration.
