Incumbent Sheriff Stan Hilkey announces today he will run for a second term as Mesa County Sheriff.
He told a crowd of supporters at the old Mesa County Courthouse in Grand Junction today that it would be unwise to change leadership during a time of progress. Hilkey says he took over a department that was already running well and made it better by working more closely with other agencies and adding new capabilities, but still keeping public service as the number one priority.
Hilkey also highlighted the Department's efforts to fight methamphetamine in Mesa County, as well as upgrades in the Mesa County Search and Rescue team.
Hilkey will face challenger Tim Stratton, who is a former investigator with the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.
