A Grand Junction Police Department search for a runaway girl leads to the discovery of a body today in a makeshift camp on the Colorado River.
Police officers received a call in the noon hour from the girl's father,
who said she had run away fromhim in the area of Mesa Mall.
It was decided to make a search of islands in the area, and during that search a body of a unidentified man was found in a tent on an island in the Colorado River near Bananas Fun Park.
The island is in the jurisdiction of the Mesa County Sheriff's Office,
and Sheriff's investigators will conduct an` inquiry into the death.
Lieutenant Jim Fogg with the Sheriff's Office say the body wasin a sleeping bag and foul play is not suspected. He adds that the advanced condition of the body may make it difficult to identify the dead man.
The young woman being searched for was not found, but officers believe she may have left the island safely.
