SUV Found In River With Female Driver Dead Inside

A woman is dead after the car she was driving goes off the road and is vaulted 100 feet into the Colorado River east of Palisade. The unidentified woman and her car were discovered by a passerby around 8 O'clock Sunday morning, six hours after the crash is believed to have happened. The person traveling along Highway 6 noticed the Kia Sportage lying upside down and half–way submerged in the water and called authorities. Investigators say a woman in her early to mid-30's was driving the vehicle when investigators say she took a curve at about 60 to 70 miles per hour. They believe she lost control of the vehicle sending it into the river. A preliminary investigation revealed the woman was wearing a seat belt and it appears as though she didn't attempt to free herself from the SUV. Along with alcohol and speed being contributing factors in the crash, State Patrol also reports a male passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. He reportedly left the scene after sustaining moderate injuries and was later contacted at his residence in Clifton. He is currently cooperating with investigators.
