People gathered on the steps of the old Mesa County courthouse Saturday to hear Republican Tom Kenyon announce his candidacy for state representative. Tom Kenyon is running in District 54, the seat that will be left vacant by Representative Josh Penry who's running for state senator. Kenyon has worked as a real estate agent and has started his own investment company. He was also employed as the Deputy Director of the Colorado State Park Service for 31 years. Kenyon feels his experience has prepared him for public office. Two other republicans, sheriff investigator Steve King and pastor Dan Wilkenson have also announced bids for House District 54. So far no democrats have entered into the race.
