Two firefighters are injured as a fire causes significant damage to a home in Grand Junction Saturday. Five units and 18 fire personnel were dispatched to the blaze which broke out around 6:30 pm. According to the fire department spokesperson Mike Page the fire at 527 29 Road began when one of the home owners fell asleep after starting dinner. The man awoke a short time later to a smoke alarm. While firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly, there was extensive damage done to the kitchen and living room areas. The occupant of the home escaped without injury, but one firefighter suffered minor smoke inhalation and another sustained a hand injury which required stitches. Both men were treated and released from Community Hospital. Total damage to the home is estimated to be about 100–thousand dollars.
