Delta-Area Wildfire Extinguished

Video will be available shortly.

The wildfire that sent nearly two dozen Delta–area residents fleeing yesterday is now out.

Firefighters were back patrolling the area at 9:15 this morning looking for remaining embers from the fire, which began yesterday morning in Montrose County, possibly from a ditch burn.

High winds quickly pushed the fire north and east along Dry Creek.
Fire in heavy brush and trees along the edge of Dry Creek Valley severely damaged one home and threatened a dozen more. One firefighter who received first degree burns was treated and released.

The fire burned 160 acres in Delta County and more than one hundred more in Montrose County. Investigators say no charges are anticipated for whoever started the accidental fire.
