Smoke Clears Valley Elementary School

Video will be available shortly.

Fruitvale's Thunder Mountain Elementary School was evacuated for nearly an hour this morning after part of the school filled with smoke.

The motor on a radiator convector seized, causing a filter to catch fire.
A janitor was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but not before part of the building filled with smoke.

Hundreds of kids and staff members were evacuated from the school.
According to Clifton Assistant Fire Chief Greg Martin evacuations went smoothly.

Fire department personnel used fans to clear the area of smoke and classes resumed, but part of the building was sealed off because there was still fire extinguishing agent on floors and walls.

Damage to the building was minimal and estimated in the hundreds of dollars.
