House minority leader Joe Stengel resigned Thursady morning after constituents requested an ethics investigation into per diem payments the Republican collected while on vacation.
In a written statement, Stengel said questions about the payments had become a distraction for himself and others in the legislature.
He called for a Republican causcus later in the day to elect a successor.
