PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) Pope Francis has named Monsignor Stephen Berg to be the next bishop of Pueblo.
The diocese said Wednesday that Berg will replace Bishop Fernando Isern, who retired in June because of poor health.
Berg, a native of Miles City, Mont., was formerly the Diocesan Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth. He will be installed as bishop on Feb. 27.
Berg took an untraditional path to the priesthood. He taught music at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth and worked in the retail nursery industry before entering the seminary in his 40s.
He is the second Fort Worth priest in two months to be named a bishop by Pope Francis. In November, the Rev. Msgr. Michael Olson was named bishop of Fort Worth.
