April 15th is still more than a month away, but if the thought of filling out all those IRS forms is too taxing help is available.
The American Association of Retired Persons-better known as the AARP-offers free tax preparation. The group will do personal tax returns for the elderly and those making under 50–thousand dollars.
Many of the volunteers are former Certified Public Accountants and tax-savvy retirees.
Service is on a first–come basis, and recently the afternoon has become the best time to come. AARP tax preparation offices are found in Grand Junction in the basement of the U.S. Bank building, the Senior Center and the V.A. hospital as well as Fruita, Palisade and Clifton.
