For the second time in four months, a Montrose County Sheriff's Deputy is facing charges of abusing an inmate.
Sergeant James Evans, a 10–year veteran of the Montrose County Sheriff's Office, was served with a summons Friday, stemming from an incident in December of last year, when Evans allegedly used aggressive force against inmate Shannon Brown. Brown allegedly taunted Evans with a number of racial slurs and insults. Evans did report his actions to superiors, prompting an investigation. Evans is currently on administrative leave pending possible disciplinary action by the Sheriff's Office..
In January, three other Sheriff's Deputies were also accused of using excessive force on an inmate.
