BLM Publishes Oil Shale Comments

The federal Bureau of Land Management has released a summary of public comments on proposed oil shale development in the west.

The comments come from public meetings held in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado.

Among the major issues were those dealing with the environment including water quality and wildlife. Other areas of concern reflect the problems communities had with the oil shale boom of the 1970's and a desire not to repeat economic problems resulting from the industry's collapse.

Many local governments expressed a desire to be involved in the process.
