Governor Bill Owens signs legislation Monday,
making it illegal statewide to smoke in most public places indoors.
The ban will go into effect July 1st,
and will include bars and restaurants,
but smokers will still be able to light up in casinos,
cigar bars and the smoking lounge at Denver International Airport.
A Grand Junction ordinance enacted in January allowed separate smoking areas in bars and restaurants,
however the passing of this state wide bill trumps the city's ordinance.
The legislation had bi-partisan sponsorship.
Colorado is the 13th state to enact such a ban.
