As the Mesa County Central Library gears up for its remodeling project they find the first step is getting rid of some pesky asbestos. The Central Library Branch will be closed from April 3 through April 17 while certified contractors remove asbestos–containing materials.
Once the asbestos is removed the library plans to start renovating.
The library will get new carpet and a new paint job. A computer lab and new teen area will be added along with a larger internet station and public programming room. All staff offices will be moved to different buildings in order to make room for the additions. Library patrons are encouraged to check out as many books as they like before the library closes next monday. check–out periods have been extended for five weeks so no books will be due until the library re–opens. The public is encouraged to visit any of the other seven Mesa County Library District branches during the closure. Homebound services will continue to operate and books that were placed on hold can be picked up at the old Rio Grande Federal Credit Union Building on Ouray Avenue.
