Suspected Copper Piping Thieves Caught

The Fruita Police Department arrested two 24–year–old men Monday, who are suspected of stealing a large amount of copper tubing last weekend, at a construction site of the 8 and 9 school being built at 1835 J Rd. in Fruita.
Police contacted the suspects, Kevin Washman and James Menard at 6th St. and Pitkin Ave, after receiving a call from a recycling business claiming the suspects were trying to sell the stolen material.
Officers recovered evidence of the burglary along with a small amount of methamphetamine. Both suspects were arrested on a number of charges, including second-degree burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
