Grand Junction rescue crews were called to a report of a vehicle in the river with possibly two juveniles involved. Turns out the vehicle, a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was unoccupied, and was found abandoned in the river just a couple hundred yards away from the Gunnison River roller dam on Orchard Mesa. The incident happened just about 10 a.m. Sunday morning. According to Mesa County Sheriff Lieutenant Don Hendricks the SUV is registered to a Grand Junction man. Authorities are trying to locate the owner and find out how the Jeep ended up in the river. A search of the vehicle and the river by members of the Grand Junction Fire Department Water Rescue team turned up nothing suspicious. Now it's the owner's responsibility to have the SUV removed from the water.
