Community members in one area of town are getting ready for a new park.

The nineteen acre site was donated years ago by the Burkey family.

It has only recently been annexed into the city of Grand Junction.

Now that it's within boundaries, the Parks and Recreation Department has agreed to turn it into something more.

Burkey Park is on Patterson near 30 Road.

Residents are encouraged to put in input on what they want to see in the park.

The preliminary plans drawn out by the city and those requested by the Burkey family don't match.
