Maplewood, Mo. (AP) Police in suburban St. Louis have surrounded a burning home after a gunman reportedly fired shots at an emergency crew.

Authorities say the incident in Maplewood began early this morning. At least two ambulances rushed away from the scene amid reports that emergency workers may have been shot. It's not been confirmed whether anyone was hit.

The burning bungalow is believed to be that of the gunman, and authorities think he is barricaded inside. Reports say a vehicle across the street exploded and began to burn.

Dozens of police officers have been called to the sene, and many have surrounded the area with rifles aimed at the house. Some nearby residents have been evacuated.

Because of the threat from the gunman, firefighters haven't been able to put out the blazes in the house or vehicle.
