Triple Crown Baseball means a week of competition between teams from all over the U.S. but it also means a boost to the local economy.
The crack of the bat echoes across Suplizio field as fans celebrate a base hit.

Craig Schumacher with Triple Crown says teams come from all over for the games, "from Chicago, some from Washington some from new Mexico, we always have teams that travel."

This year there are 18 teams in the tournament, nine from Colorado and three here locally, all aiming for the top spot. The Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau would like to see the tournament grow. "We'd love to see more teams and there is certainly more room for that," says Jennifer Grossheim Harris of the bureau.
Last year the tournament had close to 35 teams. Grossheim Harris says, "that is a huge economic impact for grand junction, we figure its just under $400,000 in that four to five (day) period and that's being pretty frugal with the estimate."

Event organizers say they hope to increase numbers next year.
Schumacher says, "I think this year with the economy hurt a little bit and the price of fuel and traveling has hurt a little bit." But that hasn't stopped everyone.

Noel Pagan is from Chicago, "We were here last year, it's a great town, a great town, really enjoy it." Pagan flew into Junction from another tournament in Arizona and says its nice to get out and enjoy the area. "Doing the rafting... horseback riding, there is a lot of stuff we are doing with the kids so its not strictly baseball," says Pagan.

Fourth seeded Montrose went on to defeat the number one seed New Trier, from Chicago six to three and will play in the semi–finals on Saturday.
