The Mesa County Coroner today officially ruled the death of a Clifton woman as homicide.
A post–mortem examination by Dr. Dean Havlick ruled the cause of death of Hortensia Mendoza to be a stab wound to the chest.
Mea County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a double stabbing Friday morning at Candlewood Trailer Park in Clifton.
Cristobal Felix–Vega was transported to St. Mary's Hospital at that time along with Mendez, who died a short time later.
Investigators later determined Felix–Vega was responsible for the stab wound that killed Mendoza, who is his ex–wife.
Felix–Vega was arrested upon his release from the hospital and taken to the Mesa County Detention Center. This morning Felix–Vega was in court, where he was advised of his rights and the charges he faces. He will make another appearance in court later this week.
