The Grand Junction Police Department hosts a celebration in honor of its 911 dispatchers who play a pivotal role in public safety. During the modest celebration Interim Police Chief Bill Gardner referred to the dedicated telecommunicators as unsung heroes.
The Grand Junction Regional Communications Center receives more than 300,000 calls for service every year. Luara Etcheverry was named 2006 Telecommunicator of the year. In 1991 congress proclaimed the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunicator's Week.
