Mesa County Economy Thrives From Local Business

Video will be available shortly.

President Bush is honoring the achievements of small business this week
and he is praising the willingness of small business owners to take risks for a better life.

20 years ago, Crossroads Fitness Center was about to go out of business,
before Dale Reece and his wife
decided to take a chance and buy the business.

Now two decades later,
the business is booming. Crossroads has grown to have two locations, with a third, an all women gym, opening soon.

Small businesses, like crossroads,
make up a majority of the businesses in the Grand Valley and they are vital to a healthy local economy. Small local business provides the majority of jobs both here in Mesa County, and nationwide.

Small businesses in Mesa County are a major reason unemployment is at a five year low.
The unemployment rate fell to 4.2 % in February.
