Aspinall Memorial Groundbreaking In Palisade

He was one of the most revered legislators in the west...but until today the late Colorado Representative Wayne Aspinall has not been memorialized in his hometown of Palisade.

Aspinall spent 48 years as an elected official in both the state house and in congress. He once said, "in the west, when you touch water, you touch everything. As a member of the House of Representatives he pushed through congress major water legislation that changed the west, including the Colorado River Storage Project Act of 1956 that created the Glen Canyon, Flaming Gorge, Navajo and Blue Mesa reservoirs.

The memorial is to be built at the corner of Main Street and Highway 6 just a block from Aspinall's Home. The dedication of the completed monument is scheduled for later this summer during the Palisade Peach Festival.
