All American adults could be overweight by the year 2048, if the obesity trends of the past 30 years continue.
Researchers used government data collected from the 1970's to 2004 to project future rates of overweight and obesity. They found 86 percent of adults will be overweight by 2030 - 51 percent will be obese. They say by 2048 all adults will be mildly overweight.
Certain populations will be affected more than others - including African-American women and mexican-American men. Experts say these projections are based on the assumption that the trends of the past three decades remain.
Also expected to rise: healthcare costs. Researchers say total he healthcare costs linked to overweight and obesity will double every decade by 2030.
