The first case of the West Nile Virus has hit the Western Slope. The Mesa County Health Department says a man in Mesa County was infected with the disease and it is the sixteenth case in the state this year.
Health officials say we are seeing higher populations of mosquitos carrying the disease this year, but four out of five people infected with the virus will not develop any illness.
If you decide to head outdoors at dusk or dawn this summer, they say to wear long sleeves and use bug replellant with the chemical DEET.
