A seven-year-old boy is recovering at the Children's Hospital in Denver after being attacked by a mountain lion. The boy was apparently hiking Saturday evening with his family at Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder when the cat attacked. Mountain lion attacks are considered rare, but wildlife officials say there have been several recent sightings of the animals in the area. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office says the boy and his family are from out of state. Officials say the lion took a swipe at the boy. He was transported to the hospital with some facial lacerations and bite marks on the legs. A spokesperson for the Division of Wildlife says officials shot and killed the mountain lion after locating it just past midnight about a half mile from where the attack happened. The female mountain lion weighed 80 pounds and was one or two years old.
