Council Postpones Rezoning Hearing

Grand Junction City Council members agreed to rehear a public hearing concerning the rezoning of a proposed salvage yard on Wednesday night, only to postpone it to a later date.
Although city council originally intended to have the hearing Wednesday night, attorney Joseph Coleman, representing Dean Van Gundy, who's looking to rezone property on South 5th St. from commercial to industrial, argued he did not have witnesses prepared and did not want to risk his clients life work by putting on a hap–hazard presentation.
The Council ultimately decided to postpone the hearing until May 3.
Although council members could have legally commenced with the hearing on Wednesday, Council Member Jim Doody pointed out that the city council is bound to practice fundamental fairness, adding that postponing the hearing was the fair and right thing to do.
